A new boutique has been added to the shuffle and bustle of the Gaslamp shopping scene.
I spotted the GOGA by Gordana boutique last week when leaving a successful happy hour at La Puerta. Even through my haze of half-off screwdrivers I knew I would have to come back to investigate beyond that gowns dancing in the windows.
Goga is owned and operated by Gordana Gehlhausen and her husband. Formerly of the former Yugoslavia, Gordana is all business when it comes to her storefront. When I visited the new boutique on a Friday afternoon, Gordana was efficiently juggling three visitors, all needing her detailed attention. The most interesting interaction of the three was an attractive woman discussing a bespoke gown Gordana is crafting for a major charity event the woman would be attending.
I didn’t realize until that moment of blatant eavesdropping that Gordana was in fact a creator of couture. Half red carpet, half stylish street wear, GOGA offers elegant gowns as well as made-to-wear European casual wear. All in one place, you can find the newest skinny jeans in various “now” colors, a chic jacket and a full length evening dress with a rose on the hip that ripples into tier after tiny tier of fabric across the mannequin’s form.
To put it plainly, walking into GOGA is an adventure for your fashion senses. Besides the gowns, you get Italian made shoes, inimitable accessories, trendy purses and a wall of grey that gives tribute to one of this year’s hottest colors. Another delightful aspect, most everything is reasonably priced.
“We do so well because we don’t over charge,” explains Gordana’s husband. “There is clothing here for forty dollars and you will never be able to find these Italian designer (shoes) for cheaper.” They also boast that they are the only boutique downtown that carries Vanilla Girl, a clothing line from Paris that makes my mouth water.
