If you're having trouble finding colorful art, unique gifts, or a large collection of imported items all at one San Diego shop, make your way to the indoor world-shopping bazaar of Coast Hwy Traders.
This North County gallery, featuring art and artists from around the world, is not only a great place to find unique and inexpensive gifts, but it also has sections devoted entirely to sunglasses, jewelry, clothing, and more.
Owner and manager, Bev and Alex, began Coast Hwy Traders as an enjoyable alternative to working in corporate America, and to provide for anyone who is tired of commercial items found in most gift shops and boutiques. Now, ten years later, they carry a selection of merchandise from all over the world including specialty items like ornaments, hand-carved wooden Buddhas from Bali, recycled finds from fifty year old landfills in New Mexico, and even a huge seashell collection.
From Mexican décor and gorgeous silver platters to cool ethnic art pieces to a whole section of Dia de los Muertos trinkets and art, Coast Hwy Traders has a large selection and unparalleled variety. Wood lacquered boxes by Francis Rodriguez, grand master pottery from Tonala, curtains, bedspreads, pillows, statues from India; the list goes on, and on.
With every nook and cranny stuffed to the brim with eclectic pieces, this wonderful surprise is one of those boutiques where you have to really take your time because there is so much to see. The clothing section is dedicated to men, women and children and showcases tie dye apparel (very IN for spring by the way), little surfer baby outfits, hats, shoes, and sunglasses.
Authentic San Diego surf crossing signs and tees by local artist Cris Hicks can also be found here. So when you are in the mood for a shopping experience, forget about the crowded mall stores and make your way to one-of-a-kind Coast Hwy Traders.
