Every fashion savvy girl knows that the holiday season is a time of the year for looking your best and being seen.
Whether it's a low-key work party or a New Year's Eve blowout, take advantage of the opportunity to sparkle and shine! Here are my picks on how to stay super fabulous during the most wonderful time of the year.
The tried and true little black dress is back and better than ever. Just make sure you rev it up and make it current by adding a killer pump or flashy bag. Embellishment is your best friend this season. Think feathers, sequins, and studs galore. If you are going to make one splurge for yourself this season, go for a super fine, investment shoe that will last you years to come – a la Christian Louboutin or Jimmy Choo, my personal faves! For your New Year’s Eve soiree, try the bandage look – body-conscious styling has been all over the runways the past few seasons! A few of my faves, and cost-conscious options, come by way of H & M, Bebe and BCBG. Designer options include Herve Leger who has put the bandaged look back on the map! Although this look may sound a bit intimidating and body skimming, it promises to keep everything nice and tight, and prepped for the party. Metallic shades of gold, silver and gunmetal are also sure fire hits and perfect for every photo opp!
Another favorite for the holidays is draping and Grecian. If you feel a little uncomfortable after all of the egg nog and sugar cookies, opt for a more flattering relaxed look with a chiffon or silk drape. And, if you’re looking for drama, try a one shoulder look to draw attention up and accentuate the slimmer parts of your frame. Find a shoulder-structured piece that plays up a colorful fabric and has some embellishment. You can’t go wrong with a little leather and lace too!
And, of course, I have a few don’ts to go with all these do’s. NO to whites! Soft winter white is ok; but wearing a stark white dress anywhere (unless it’s at your wedding) is a fashion no-no. Holiday sweaters are out as well unless you're heading to an Ugly Sweater Party; and even then, they still make me shudder. When in doubt, if you’re afraid of matching Grandma, steer clear! And last but not least, stay classy ladies, we are in San Diego.
