Indulge in Fashion Staycation with Local Passport to Style

Published : 9/3/2008 by Alexis Griffith

It's no secret that San Diegans love fashion, and with an array of independent boutiques popping up around town offering us inspired accessories and unique pieces to choose from, we have begun to strut our way to the cutting edge of style.

Fashion Group International (FGI) and Fashion Opportunities Connect Us (FOCUS), a sister group of FGI, believe in San Diego as a staple city of fashion and are inviting trendsetters, shoppers and fashion lovers to experience San Diego's local couture with a Passport to Style.

By combining our fervor for fashion and locally loved independent boutiques like Mimi & Red, Station and The River, among many others in the San Diego shopping scene, FGI's Passport to Style will give San Diegans the chance, from September 5th-13th, to vote on up-and-coming designers.

With the purchase of a "passport" for a five dollar donation, guests will vote on San Diego's contributing designers, whose pieces will be displayed in the participating boutiques and judged on creativity, originality and marketability. Passport's top designers will walk away with thousands of dollars in scholarship money and gain notoriety within the community.

Those who join in on the fashion festivities will also enjoy shopping discounts, valuable coupons and a stamp from each boutique for drinks and/or drawing tickets at the Passport to Style (P2S) final fashion show event on September 14. The finale event, which will be held from 6-9pm at the NTC Promenade, will feature a live art show, DJs, live music from hometown heroes, Buddy Akai, hosted drinks by Red Bull, Effen Vodka and Peroni Beer, a runway show featuring the program's designers, goodie bags, and drawing prices such as travel and spa goods, apparel and jewelry. What other reason does one need to join the fashion democracy?

Insider Tip: The 14th may be the finale, but that isn't the only party going down during P2S. Check passporttostyle.org for more information on neighborhood parties, and make sure you get the most out of your San Diego passport to style.
