Insider Guide to Gaslamp Party Ready Fashion in San Diego

Published : 4/14/2008 by Vanessa Valiente

The '80s band Loverboy had a point when they sang the anthem lyrics "Everybody's working for the weekend."

After a hard week's work all you want to do is forget about your boss, your deadlines, and rip off your work appropriate attire. When your Friday comes around, it's time for a cocktail, a fabulous outfit, and some social activity that does not involve holding back swear words.

When hitting up the Gaslamp clubs on a Friday night, it's too easy to just wear your nice jeans or a revealing dress and be done with it, but not on my beat. Instead, let's mix sexy with style. When hitting the rooftop Different Strokes party at the Hard Rock Hotel this Friday, leave your jeans and outdated "sexy" top at home.

Before you party, pop into Let's Go in La Jolla and pick up an enchanting outfit. I recently saw a gorgeous indigo blue BCBG dress in there that is perfect. The short length and bejeweled spaghetti straps will draw the eyes of the crowd, but the flowy fit and fashionable 3-D flower trim at the hem will ensure the attention you're getting is the good kind.

You must now peruse the shoe section on the bottom level so you can find the perfect heels to complement your downtown dress. I recommend Lamb's high heel open-toe lace-up booties in black and white to go with the Indigo frock.

Lastly, you need jewelry. This outfit begs to be accessorized by Elisa Gonsalves, a local jewelry designer here in San Diego. For earrings, pick up the silver circular filigree ones called "flirt." Then top the outfit off with one of her unusual rings. I adore the "covet" ring, which is a mix of small turquoise orbs and sterling silver.

You are now ready to enjoy your downtown weekend plans in style. For more fashion advice or a wardrobe consultation go to vanessavaliente.com. And check this ensemble out for yourself at Let's Go and Elisa Gonsalves.
