Local Style Spotlight: Kyra Johnson of Blue Marble Spa

We are lucky to live in a city like San Diego that is home to so many unique spas and salons.

These serene refuges help us locals remain healthy and beautiful year-round. San Diego spa-goers know Blue Marble in Mission Bay for its eco-conscious take on well-being, but they may not know the woman behind the brand.

Kyra Johnson appreciates a true fine dining experience, is inspired by Gwenyth Paltrow’s feminine and sophisticated look, and can be found shopping for herself at Hermes and her husband at Burberry. But mostly we love Kyra because she understands the importance of a well fit suit on a San Diego man.

Get to know Kyra in this week’s Local Style Spotlight.

DiscoverSD: What role do you play at Blue Marble?

Kyra: I am the Spa Director at Blue Marble, creating the first Eco-Spa in the Hyatt Pure North American portfolio. I am a member of the San Diego Spa Association and the International Spa Association. In 2009, I won a San Diego Women in Business Award sponsored by the YWCA.

DSD: When you’re not working, where can we find you in San Diego?
K: My absolute favorite restaurant in the world is Addison, which just happens to be in San Diego. The food, the wine and the ambiance is second to none. Truly a world-class dining experience.

DSD: In three words, describe your style.
K: Classic. Elegant. Feminine.

DSD: Who is your female celebrity fashion icon?
K: Gwenyth Paltrow – High fashion, sophisticated and very feminine.

DSD: What is the biggest turn-off in male fashion?
K: Suits that don’t fit.

DSD: Where do you shop in San Diego?
K: I love the new Hermes store at Fashion Valley and I love to shop at Burberry for my husband. I’ve also recently re-discovered J. Crew, which is surprisingly feminine and easy to wear.

DSD: What style era was the worst for you?
K: 1990s. I remember a sweater my mom bought me with built-in shoulder pads. Need I say more?

DSD: Working at a hotel spa, you are always around different people. What fashion wisdom have you learned in that environment?

K: I draw fashion inspiration from art and travel and history.

Love Kyra? So do we. Go seek style inspiration from Kyra Johnson at Blue Marble Day Spa within the Hyatt Regency Mission Bay.
