To feast on utterly unique looks and support emerging local designers, I suggest you attend Mesa College’s 30th annual Golden Scissors Fashion Show on Friday, May 13th.
This event is put together entirely by the students enrolled in various fashion courses at Mesa College in San Diego. The Fashion Promotion class acts behind the scenes to make the show a reality, as the Fashion Design stars bring their designs to the frontlines of fashion. And that’s just the beginning.
Mesa College students enrolled in Fashion Merchandising, Music, Multimedia and Dance come together to supply music, onstage performances, and visual slideshows. The show will include over 120 different looks from 75 students with categories ranging from Weekend Wear to Retro-Redo. Perhaps the most curious category is the Non-Fabric challenge in which students must use any media except fabric to come up with creative designs.
The Golden Scissors Fashion Show will entertain and inspire attendees while giving students the opportunity to steal the spotlight and watch their creations come to life on the runway. The majority of the proceeds from the show will directly aid the Mesa College Fashion Scholarship Program, designed to help students bring out their creativity through all circumstances in life. A silent auction will further raise money for the Scholarship Program.
The event will take place on Friday, May 13th from 7:30 to 9:30pm at the San Diego Sheraton’s Hotel Pavilion. Ticket prices start at $15 for students with a valid school I.D. card. General admission tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door. VIP tickets include a pre-show reception with front row seats and are available for $50. For more information, visit sdmesa.edu.
