Cleverly named after the owner's kitties, Mog & Rue in Encinitas is a mod yet sleek space housing some major designers under one roof. Owner and designer, Annie Loos, wanted to bring different brands from Los Angeles and New York that were unique to San Diego. She attended design school at Mesa College and participated in a summer program at the St. Martins School of Design in London where world-renowned designers such as Stella McCartney were trained.
Situated in the Encinitas Lumberyard outdoor shopping plaza, Mog & Rue is a petite, uncluttered boutique with white walls, dark brown floors and fresh flowers. Racks of beautiful clothing line the walls while large white shelves display accessories including belts, beauty products as well as candles. Mod bar stools are positioned in front of the counter to create a friendly, comfortable yet unparalleled atmosphere.
Mog & Rue showcases some of the best designers around including Fred Segal, Ron Herman, Voom, printed dresses by Bilingual as well as Iron Army denim, exclusively sold in San Diego. Also included are Amy Kathryn handbags, Odyn jeans, Sam Edelman shoes, Mae feminine clothing, Lucid jewelry and Lucia Bella leather handbags and accessories.
Not only does Annie own a fabulous boutique, but she also holds fashion design drawing classes, targeted to ages eight to fourteen, in order to help young aspiring designers realize their dreams. In these classes she covers style, fashion careers, trends, dressing, colors and what not to wear as well as teaching students the formal names of clothing and how to sketch them.
