Mog & Rue, a contemporary fashion boutique in Encinitas, has brought the best of today’s fashion from both established and independent designers over the years. You can trust you’re in good hands with owner Christianna Ablahad, who also dabbles frequently as a published fashion and beauty writer. She’s an it girl when it comes to fashion, a frequently consulted expert by both AOL and NBC, and now she’s opening her store to involve classes for the up and coming designer of San Diego.
Mog & Rue wants to give customers a chance to learn from the experts. Newly offered fashion classes will teach the basics of everything from sketching to sewing to aspiring designers. All instructors are graduates of and instructors at the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising, so you’ll be studying under industry leaders with knowledge and experience to get you started on a new project.
The Fashion Sketching Class, for ages 8 to 14, teaches the basics of everything from drawing a croquis to illustrating fabrics, skin tone, and notions. Students will leave knowing the nine head croquis and commercial patterns, as well as learning the importance of sewing as a fashion designer. Any high-schoolers planning on attending FIDM are encouraged to take this class, as well as anyone looking to learn more about the process of sketching. The class runs on Tuesdays from May 31 to June 21.
The Sketching, Pattern, Draping, and Sewing class, ages 15 and up, implements the sketching patterns and compositions, as well as draping a muslin bodice and skirt. Then students will be able to create a pattern used to sew a muslin dress for fitting purposes. Students will leave the class with their own design they can proudly sport, showing off their newfound designer skills. This class runs on Mondays from June 20 to July 18.. Space is limited to eight students per class so sign up now to reserve your spot.
