With the New Year already upon us it seems that body detoxes and workout resolutions are all the rage. But, your body isn’t the only place in need of a clean sweep. It’s time to peek into the depths of your closet and pull out the latest and greatest trends in preparation of your perfect year of style.
New York Fashion Week in September showcased spring looks alongside the latest duds for your weather wardrobe. From mall stores to local boutiques, the top ten trends are finally everywhere to be found, and a few may be already in your collection.
My must-have picks include color galore, with a focus on blue and red. Black was a key shade for the winter months, but with the softening of spring, choose a brighter color that will remain coy while switching up for your look for the new season. Soft tailoring is also pertinent with lace and ruffles aplenty. For jewelry, think pearls and pieces with small and intricate detail.
Another standout trend is to maximize the minimum. Plenty of designers took this idea to the limit with cut-out pieces, super short miniskirts, and bare brassieres on the runway. Thanks to heavy hitters like Michael Kors and Dolce & Gabbana (pictured), this trend is sure to shine until the sunny days of summer.
Military looks continued to be strong from their fall debut last year. Balenciaga, Burberry, and Balmain showed this indestructible look. Patterns also kept full force and a little bit of the country life was unleashed with leaders like Chanel, Christopher Kane, and Oscar de la Renta. Look to any of these great designers to find the perfect picnic frock.
And for those of us on a New Year’s budget, use the tips of the season to aim yourself in a more cost-conscious direction. The best places to find clever copies of these runway trends are Forever 21, H&M, and a personal favorite, Urban Outfitters. Just keep in mind that no matter the trend or push of fashion, the most important element to any ensemble is your confidence.
