San Diego Fashion Advice: Jeans for long legs

Published : 7/24/2007 by Jessie Mandel

Hi Jessie,

I have really long legs, and I have the hardest time trying to find jeans that are long enough. They always end up too short, and they look funny when I wear heels. What kind of jeans would you recommend for long legs? And do you know where they carry them in San Diego?

                                                                                    Thanks!!

                                                                                    -Ashley

Dear Ashley,

Fear no more! There’s need for you to conform to the fashion-challenged “high water peddle pusher” look in San Diego just yet.

While finding the right jeans in San Diego stores can be an utter nightmare when you have long legs, I’ve discovered a few different brands whose designers haven’t shunned those with a taller physique.

For starters, try the brand Rock and Republics. Although the back pocket pattern may differ depending on the wash and style you choose, nearly every pair has a 36” inseam, so you should be headed in the right “fit” direction. R&R styles also tend to have a slightly higher rise, so you’ll be able to both sit and stand comfortably. The stretch fabric not only favors those with long legs, but also those with hips.

Rock and Republic jeans range from about $178-$260 and can be found in the San Diego Fashion Valley Mall’s Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Saks, Let’s GO, and Denim Bar in Cardiff-by-the-Sea.

If you try the Rock and Republic styles and decide the look just doesn’t do it for you, then try on a pair of Juicy Couture jeans, about $150, or Earl Jeans, about $140. Both brands run with a 34”-36” inseam, but can be ordered extra-long if need be. This gives the impression that your jeans have been custom-made for you—at a pretty reasonable price.

Juicy Couture and Earl Jeans can be found at the Neiman Marcus or Nordstrom department stores in San Diego as well.

Still, regardless which brand you decide to invest in, remember the price of the jean won’t determine its overall fit. Just because something is labeled designer doesn’t necessarily mean it’s better. High-end designer jeans typically run with higher prices because they tend to have better quality and craftsmanship, but sometimes the look isn’t any better.

Hopefully you’ll have a bit more luck when searching for a denim match to fit your frame. Good luck!

asian/mexican boutiques!

ok i know this is the cheapskate talking in me but if you don't want to spend a whole lot of money on a good pair of jeans, check out the cheapie asian/mexican boutiques! there are loads in national city and chula vista, and if you're willing to make the trek- san ysidro! also, stores like reference and toda moda carry really long legged jeans. cest'toi i believe is the brand- you won't ever pay more than 30 bucks! they're stretchy, comfy, and they come in a variety of washes and cuts. so yeah. i bought two pairs of skinny jeans that cost me 20 bucks a piece.
