Providing hats that are anything but typical, The Ampal Creative began in San Diego in 2005 motivated by a hat market that was restricted at the time. Starting in this particular niche proved to be a long and tough process, but the insatiable drive to find hats that actually fit enabled owner and creative director, Andy Potash to make it happen.
When designing the hats, Andy is inspired by everything that makes up California culture, ranging from hand-painted Mexican signs, art, graffiti, friends and trees to custom cars, music, fashion, rock 'n' roll and booze. Andy builds upon an appreciation for luxury items as well as fashion from decades past, and tries to add a youthful and modern twist to traditional silhouettes.
Their premier collection of hats, including both fitted caps and fedoras, is motivated by the classics and enhanced with a unique modern aesthetic. With a limited amount of 200-250 hats per style, there is an appeal of exclusivity for the buyer. Not only does The Ampal Creative strive to create new designs, hand pick the best materials and ensure the product flow stays fresh, but it has identified itself as a truly distinctive choice whether for day or night.
For the upcoming summer months, the Buena Vista Fedora (pictured) is a great option. The natural straw exterior and reversible hat band are extremely stylish and will protect your face from the sun's rays.
Without name-dropping too much, The Ampal Creative has a devoted celebrity following of MIA and her crew, Mike Giant, Shaun Phillips, Will.I.Am and the ever-trendy Justin Timberlake.
These caps appeal to rockers, artists and anyone who is anti-looking like everyone else.
The Ampal Creative hats can be found at UNIV Encinitas, Mitch's, Capricorn Boutique in Bird Rock and 5 and a Dime in East Village as well as online at theampalcreative.com.
