The River is a staple Pacific Beach boutique that's been around since the mid '80s. Yet with the launch of their brand new website, it's only appropriate to seek a style update from Garnet headquarters.
Founder, Bob Abeyta, grew up in Wisconsin dreaming of the casual surf-skate culture that is alive and thriving in Southern California. Finally making his way out west, Bob decided to open The River, the boutique name influenced by his childhood days.
In merchandising the store, Bob draws his creativity from his love for music, '70s vintage fashion, and the laid back surf and skate community. With a good mix of upscale and more affordable apparel and accessories for both men and women, The River is home to such retro brands as OP Classic, Rainbow Sandals, and Penguin, while some of the more trendy lines include Ezekiel, Jedidiah, Insight, and Creative Recreation.
Other mentionable brands are Alternative Tees, as seen on celebrities, Ambiguous, American Apparel, BB Dakota, Dickies, Element, Friends United Network, Free People, goodie two sleeves clothing, Local Celebrity, Level 99, Soul Rebel, Vintage Vantage, and Modern Amusement. The River's Jedidiah line is now presenting the Hope Collection, which includes a series of tees designed to benefit certain humanitarian organizations and their designated causes. This company donates $10 per tee sold from these seven collaborations to their respective social aid affiliates. The groups for 2008 include World Vision/Glue Network, Invisible Children, Gabriel House, Street Angels, ZOE Children's Home, International Justice Mission, and Love Light & Melody.
