UNIV, a boutique in downtown Encinitas that recently opened in 2006, is designed as a concept shop, that prides itself in being universal and inclusive to all types and culture.

The owners, Tim Swart and Mirko Mangum, both have a history within the action sports footwear and apparel market. With the desire to put Encinitas on the map as a fashion center, UNIV represents the upcoming movement of hip hop combined with rock 'n' roll style demonstrated in the exclusive and innovative clothing. They wanted their San Diego boutique to be a tribute to California's carefree attitude and culture, defined by surfing, hot rods, and the beach lifestyle.

This concept shop offers uniquely designed products that feature a classic aesthetic, intricate details, and a fun attitude. The UNIV line includes denim, T-shirts, fleece, cut-and-sew garments, bags, and accessories for both men and women. Denim prices range anywhere from $85 to $110, and they also carry exclusive T-shirts and limited edition shoes that one cannot find anywhere else. Along with the UNIV products, this shop incorporates specially selected footwear, apparel, and accessories from lines such as Nike SB, Stussy, Crooks & Castles, Vans, New Balance, Adidas, and Kid Robot.

UNIV features a characteristic interior offering customers a world of adventure in the 700 square foot space. UNIV carries one-of-a-kind handmade elements and collectible brands from all over the world, including Japan, New York, and London, to name a few.

UNIV is involved with many community projects involving cultural affiliations with events and collaborative efforts with other companies located in the Southern California area.
