Vintage Religion in North Park

Published : 12/24/2007 by Jenny Herman

Vintage Religion, which opened its doors in October of 2006, is a new concept boutique inspired by religions and cultures of the world. Based on his own home décor, owner Philip Shirk, wanted to share his love and respect by giving people a place to observe and purchase items from various world religions and beliefs.

In the beginning, he was concerned that customers would be offended by the blending of the religions and cultures, but people seem to be truly accepting the idea. In fact, the clientele is just as diverse as the merchandise, proving that an individual does not have to be religious to enjoy these works of art.

Offering an eclectic mix of fine arts, home décor, gifts, antiques and jewelry from the Christian, Buddhist, Hindu and Jewish religions, you have to see Vintage Religion to believe it. From Frida Kahlo Collectibles  (memorabilia inspired by one of Mexico's most popular painters) to the Vatican Collection jewelry line and beautiful rosaries, there is something for everybody. Designer handbags and apparel including screen tees with images of religious and cultural icons grace the shelves of this open and ethereal boutique.

Their fine art collection features painters, sculptors and craftsmen from San Diego and all over the world. This boutique also offers a variety of patron saints, Buddha's, Hindu deities, angels, Fleur de Li's and Judaica in plaster, resin, bronze, porcelain and chalk-ware for home and garden. There are also fun novelty gifts to choose from such as "wash away your sins" soap and "atone-mints." Vintage Religion is involved with North Park's Ray at Night, an art event held the second Saturday of every month. This cultural event features the images of one new artist inspired by various religions and cultures.
